Gardening with Friends ...

One of the many joys of gardening is digging in the dirt with friends.
Today I spent 3-4 hours in the sunshine at our friends house. I helped make soil, build the raised beds and then plant in them. Very fun.

The raised beds are sporting: Bed 1 = Sweet Peppers, Chili Peppers, 2 bush cucumber plants and an Eggplant.
Bed 2 = Bush Green Beans, Watermelon, Tomatoes, Carrots and Basil.

This bed has a row of Corn at the back, 4 blueberries, a zucchini and some sweet yellow onions!

Exhausted and slightly sunburned (when will I learn to put on sunscreen?), I think we did a weekends work in just a few hours. The children all helped plant seeds and plants, mixed up soil and raked and hoed where necessary and they carried all those landscaping stones from the garage to the beds you now see. Everybody pitched in and did great work.

All is Springy..

Busy busy with springtime around here.

I am trying to paint almost every day and get the summer veggies planted. Plus run around with our precious ones to play out in the sun.

Today we were blessed to be taken to the Missouri Botanical Garden for the entire morning. It was great! We saw and played in the new childrens garden, and fun was had by all. (Pics later!)

I am off to finish checking my paint supplies (must be ready for Augusta plein air in 12 days!) and plant a few more doux de espagne seeds (the first ones did not germinate well)

Enjoy this incredible spring weather, I will post again soon.

What’s new for the Garden …

041

Well, I started some peas germinating in lukewarm water overnight…

042

Plus, I began Eggplant (2) (some of you may remember the Listada de Gandia from 2009)

and some Banana Peppers(2).

043

Also, Doux de Espagne (6) and Purple Beauty Peppers (3).

044

Plus the tomatoes are taking off.

Bloesser Yellow, Pink and some Black Brandywine, plus my favorite snacker Bi-Color Cherry.

045

This is a winter loving Yellow Bloesser. Just for fun. It is actually leggy and spindly.

It still might produce some tomatoes by June.

046

These are the Strawberries coming back.

047

I think they are doing well.

049

These are the peas after 48 hours.

Seriously. I took a store bought package of pea seeds. I soaked half of them in water overnight. Then drained off the water and placed them on a damp paper towel and voila… I have pea germination!

I put them into the dirt in the raised beds yesterday with help from Medium. We planted them 4 inches apart. I am looking to harvest some early peas. (thank you Paul, for your brilliant picture post on peas!)

I will post a garden update soon.
